GEJAAGD DOOR DE WIND2009
What means hunted by the wind was a exposition in collaboration whit the zuiderzee museum in the nederlands and fashion designers Alexander van Slobbe and Francisco van Benthum as guest curators.
The theme of the exposition was Holland and the history, design, clothing (klederdracht), weather, landscapes and people of it.
Designers like Viktor&Rolf, Jan taminiau, Spijkers en Spijkers let themselves be often inspired by the dutch history , you can see it in the strong lines and design.
For this exposition selected students from every fashion academy wear chosen, to make a piece inspired by the history of the country. I was one of the lucky ones chosen to represented HKU, (the school for arts in Utrecht).
...Inspiration...
When taking a tour thru Urk (a small old town) i let my interest go when a saw a pair of gigantic fishers boots hanging in a small kitchen in one of the little houses, also the coat and the tools wear hanging, like he was home.
The idea that this fishermen had to work for sometimes 6 months at sea, in stormy weather and with no certainty about when he wear to see thes loves ones turn into a story for me. And this is how a see him. The big breaded robe represent the heaviness of the duty of being a men at that time.
